A MARITIME training company in the region has won a contract with one of the Far East's largest shipping companies.
Seafarer Services.com, based in Newcastle, has won a deal to recruit and train staff for Chinese company Cosco Dalian Manning Corporation, which has about 40,000 seafarers.
The deal, supported by UK Trade & Investment's (UKTI) Passport to Export programme, is expected to have a major impact on the scale of the North-East venture, which provides electronic and distance learning courses, and comes only four years after Seafarer Services.com tried unsuccessfully to break into the Chinese market.
Michael Marshall, of Seafarer Services.com, said the company was hoping to take advantage of its foothold in the Far East, with Taiwan being a prime target.
He said: "As a result of signing up to Passport, we entered a collaborative arrangement with Cosco Dalian Manning Corporation and set up Seafarer Services.com to manage this newly-won business."
