ONE of the region's most acclaimed business leaders has signed up to write a monthly column for The Northern Echo.
In tomorrow's free, 16-page Jobs&Business supplement Mike Matthews, managing director of Nifco UK at Eaglescliffe, near Stockton, will give an insight into some of the secrets behind his success.
Few people are better placed to talk about the challenges facing businesses in our region than the Darlington-born boss who was recently appointed President of the North East Chamber of Commerce.
Under Mr Matthews' leadership, Nifco has gone from the verge of collapse to become one of the shining stars of North-East manufacturing, with plans in place to open a third new factory in less than five years.
"It is really exciting to have been given this platform – and fantastic to be able to share my thoughts each month, and to have the opportunity to provide some insight into the busy world of Nifco," said Mr Matthews, a former toolmaking apprentice who grew up on Branksome estate, Darlington, and last year was named an MBE for services to North-East business in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
