MORE than 260 jobs are under threat at Utterly Butterly maker Dairy Crest.
The firm, which also makes Cathedral City cheese and Frijj milkshakes, is consulting with staff over closures at a glass bottling dairy in Hanworth, West London, and a specialist cream potting plant in Chard, Somerset.
It said proposals to end production at Hanworth, which employs about 200 workers, comes amid falling demand for glass milk bottles.
Bosses said the site will remain open for two years, before milk is delivered solely in plastic bottles.
The firm added its Chard division, which employs about 60 staff, is no longer economically viable.
Mark Allen, chief executive, said: “These decisions have not been taken lightly, but they are right for the long-term future of the business.
“We will do all we can to help staff who may be affected by the proposals.”
