INDUSTRIAL services group Chieftain has invested in new premises on Teesside.

The Tyneside-based group has relocated its R Blackett Charlton industrial business to Middlesbrough after outgrowing its previous base at The Wilton Centre.

The move follows Chieftain's acquisition of Stocktonbased Bringover Limited, which repairs and maintains engineering machinery.

The premises, on Skippers Lane Industrial Estate, will be renamed RBC House and staff numbers will more than double to 35, with plans for further jobs.

Chieftain is an industrial services business encompassing engineering services, fabrication, manpower supply, environmental services and marine outfitting.

Its R Blackett Charlton subsidiary opened on Teesside in February last year and is responsible for 250 contract workers on customers' sites, including BASF, Conoco- Philips, Hydro Polymers and the Teesside Power Station.

Chief executive Bill Taylor said: "From a standing start less than two years ago, the business has outgrown its existing premises thanks to the contracts it has secured with major blue-chip clients.

"Our relocation further reinforces our commitment to the process industry and will safeguard skilled employment for the future."

Chieftain also announced yesterday that its subsidiary, Chieftain Insulation Limited, has been awarded a British Safety Council Sword of Honour, which recognises organisations with world class safety systems.
