A FORMER England cricket captain has passed on his secrets of success to business leaders.

Alec Stewart, who played 133 Test matches for his country, spoke to staff about how to stay ahead of the competition and flourish in their market, in his role as an ambassador for Yorkshire Bank.

Mr Stewart, who, in 1994, became just the seventh English batsman to score two hundreds in the same match, against the West Indies, met business people in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, in an event organised by Yorkshire Bank’s North Yorkshire Business and Private Banking Centre (YBBC).

Rick Warburton, head of YBBC, which covers Harrogate, York and Scarborough, in North Yorkshire, said: “We were grateful that Alec could give up time in his busy schedule to meet and talk to local business people.

“There are many similarities between captaining a successful sports side and running a successful business and the audience was very interested in what he had to say.”
