A STOCKTON-BASED engineering firm has completed work to install electric cables on an offshore wind farm.

Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical laid high-voltage cabling on a Lincolnshire wind farm, using a new remove operated vehicle (ROV) which it hopes will secure more contracts in the renewables and oil and gas sectors.

The Q1000 trencher, built by Soil Machine Dynamics, in Wallsend, can operate up to 2,000m under water to bury pipelines, umbilicals and cables.

Daryl Lynch, managing director of Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical, said: “We are extremely proud to have been awarded repeat work on the Lincolnshire wind farm for Lincolnshire Offshore Wind Limited.

“It was also the first award for the Q1000 and we look forward to building our reputation as the best in our field.”

In July last year, the company won a £40m contract to install cables for the Gwynt y Mor wind farm, off the coast of North Wales, which is set to become the largest in Europe.
