LOCAL racing driver Max Coates has secured a last-minute drive in this weekend’s round of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup at his home circuit, Croft.

Coates, who is from Scorton, is reforming his privateer team with backing from Primex Plastics Limited specifically to drive in the Ginetta Supercup, which is one of the leading support series for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, which races at Croft on June 28-29.

The 20-year-old, who is a student at Leeds Metropolitan University, claimed a podium finish in the third race of the same series at Croft last season.

He appeared as a guest driver in a Porsche 911 in the Donington Park round of this season’s Porsche Carrera Cup, and is hoping his local knowledge of North Yorkshire’s only race circuit will prove crucial.

“I’m so happy to be back in the race seat,” said Coates. “It’s been a bit last minute, but I’m now looking forward to the weekend. Croft is a great circuit to drive, and having local support is always a massive help.”
