A WEEKEND of league and championship races also saw several PB’s and two club records being broken, one of which had stood for over fifteen years.

The latest 10K league race took place over at Scarborough, held on an out and back route along the coast, which saw two Quakers finishing in the top ten. Paul Dalton crossed the line seventh in 35:01 (PB and breaking the club record for his age category which had stood since 2001), with Marc Ellis not far behind in tenth in 36:25. Next to finish were Gary Read (41:06), Steven Major (42:08), Alistair Johnson (43:30), Rob Gillham (48:15), Neil Harrington (49:13), Darren Alderson (52:22), David Ledgerwood (53:27), Anna Hardy (55:29), Darryn Wood (1:01:21), Sharon Carr (1:06:19), Lisa Alderson (1:14:06, PB) and Linda Harrington (1:18:25).

Up at Newcastle, the latest championship race, the Town Moor half marathon was held over a flat three lap course around the exhibition park and town moor itself. Brian Martin finished in fifth place overall in a new PB of 1:25:25 (also finishing first in his age category and breaking his own club record for the distance), along with Phil Rutter (1:38:23), Sandra Martin (2:00:55, PB) and Jamie Pratt (2:01:42).

The city also saw the finish of this year’s M2N races, of which the half marathon distance went from Whitley Bay to the Newcastle Quayside. Diane Vaughan completed the distance in 1:46:16 along with Richard Hughes in 1:55:57.

Heading south, Peter Rowley was the sole Quaker to run the Wistow 10K race, near Selby, completing the fairly flat course in 48:45.

Three headed off-road, and north of the border, for this year’s OMM Mountain Marathon, held at Glentrool, Dumfries and Galloway, where runners have a certain amount of time to gain points for each checkpoint reached, with penalties for any late arrivals. Over a combined total of 13 hours 43 minutes, Andrew Lambe and Darren Wright completed the long course event, while Abbie Hull and her friend finished the short course event after a combined 7 hours 2 minutes.

In the Saturday morning parkruns, Alex Kiel was first across the line at South Park in 15:55, followed by Kyle Cook (17:33, PB), Dave Jones (17:59), Rob Dent (19:09), Daniel Orton (19:57), David Todd (20:09), Ed Griffiths (20:53), Iain Clyde (21:41, PB), David Mclachlan (23:29), Gavin Armstrong (24:07), Rebecca Bowes (24:08), Danny Gordon (24:22), Rob Gillham (24:49), Steven Major (25:45), Brian Dixon (25:52), Pamela Barrass (26:32), Wendy Noble (26:45), Lewis Boshier (27:31), Michelle Boshier (27:32), Mark Trowles (27:51), Jamie Pratt (27:55), Andy Whittam (28:08), Sally Singleton (28:40), Ian Hammond (29:05), Michelle Scruby (29:16), Lee Morris (29:39), Lisa Johnstone (29:44), Olly Moore (30:00), Gary Read (30:40), Nichola Jordan (31:35), Michael King (31:46), Jan Waite (37:48) and Adrian Dent (39:59).

At Sedgefield, Michael Joyeux was first across the line there in 17:23, along with Mark Robinson (20:08), Dave Thompson (24:32), Anthony Corbett (24:40), Neil Harrington (26:20), Sarah Watson (26:21), Richard Payne (31:05), Emily Beaumont (35:11), Karen Dove (38:15) and Julie Remmer (38:38). At Albert Park, Stephen Moore and Diane Adkins finished there in 22:22 and 28:15 respectively, while Helen Whiting ran at Stewart Park in 34:59. Ty Hankinson did the run at Hackworth in 24:55, Ian Bond ran at Tees Barrage in 23:25, while David Ledgerwood finished at Gateshead in 25:44. Further afield, Rachel and Paul Ryan ran at Warrington in 38:20 and 40:34 respectively, while Michael Thompson did the run at Falkirk in 20:24.
