NATIONAL C.I.U. Quarter Final

Michael Burke became the second player from Crook Belle Vue Club to reach the semi finals after he beat the visiting Peter Quinn of Brafield-on-the-Green Club, Northants in the best of seven frames quarter final of the National C.I.U. Singles Championship.

Burke made an excellent start when he went ahead by taking the first frame with a tough treble on the black and went on to add the second with ease. The home player’s lead went to three-nil with a very impressive clearance.

Things looked really positive when Burke cleared all his reds but unluckily flicked the black into a difficult position, just failing with a blind, extremely thin cut back into the middle pocket. Quinn showed his undoubted ability when he cleared to put his first point on the board.

Quinn added a second point in the next frame when Burke took control of a slow tactical encounter but was unlucky when cannoning into the cluster of balls which surrounded the black, which was kicked into the pocket. This reversal fired Burke and he took out a classy clearance to book his place in the semi finals, where he will join fellow club member, David Craggs.
