COUNTY SUPER League

 

                The new season opened with 18 teams, four of which were new. The newcomers recorded two wins and two defeats – the two Ferryhill teams were beaten, whilst Byers Green Club and Shotton Comrades made wins.

                The Shotton team made an excellent start when they won at Darlington Builders Arms, who ended last season in fourth place. The Builders won two of the three pairs games before the following singles results (Builders names first) Tony Keane 14. 08 lost to John Scullion 23.48; Lee Wright 21.78 beat Sean Potts 18.38.; Dean Scott 18.65 lost to Matthew Hodgson 20.31; Chris Allum 21.03 lost to Graeme Hills 25.06; Mark Low lost to Gary Turnbull 25.38; Tim Mann 20.55 beat Carl Redden 18.29.

Oakleaf Colliery League

 

                Hesleden Club moved 11 points clear after beating the visiting Houghton Comrades, whilst second placed, Hetton Shepherds used home advantage to narrowly beat Shotton Comrades.

                Performances of the week: Paul Jennings of Hesleden Club hit two 180s and a 136 checkout; Dave Price of Easington Lane Bonnie Pit Lad hit a 180 and a 14 dart leg; Dave Prins of Easington Colliery Club B hit a 180 and a 15 dart leg; Cameron and Craig Anderson of Easington Lane Bonnie Pit Lad both hit a 180 and a 17 dart leg.

180s were registered by Paul Cartwright of Easington Colliery Club B, Phil Tanney of Blackhall RAFA, Ian Whittaker of Houghton Comrades, Alan Stokoe of Shotton Comrades, Linda Ithurralde and Gary Storey of Coxhoe Red Lion.

                Dave Hunter of Hesleden Club hit a 14 dart leg; Graeme Hills of Hetton Shepherds hit an 18 dart leg; Liam Carr of Wheatley Hill Club hit a 103 checkout; Gary Packard of Shotton Comrades hit a 118 checkout.

Gwent away; 5 & 6 March home to Nottinghamshire; 2 & 3 April; Derbyshire away; 23 & 24 April home to Kent.

 

Crook Ladies League

 

                The lead at the top went back to 11 points after Tow Lw FC only dropped one point at Billy Row Green, whilst the Crown B only managed to clinch victory in the decider at the North Point.

                The leading individual scorers were Joanne Varley 134, 117, Janice Warriner 100, 100, 132, Annette Clark and Angela Gallagher 125 each, Sarah Bowey 120, Betty Hawkins 116, Lorraine Lax 113 (start), Helen Rudd 110, Betty Chapman 108 and Sylvia Dennison, Gina Standring, Eileen Steel and Linda Trowles 100 each.

                The draw for the First Round of this Durham County C.I.U/ competition is Coxhoe v Leadgate A; Wheatley Hill v Houghton Comrades A; Alberta v Byers Green A; Lanchester v Stanley Empire; Crawcrook v Redhouse; Leadgate B v Easington Colliery; Byers Green B v Shotton Comrades; Houghton Comrades B v Glendale. Results to be into the Branch Office by 19 September.

 

Willington League

 

                The new season will begin on Monday 14 September when the fixtures will be Black Horse Inn v Willington Club; Byers Green v Cottles; Football Club A v Hunwick Club; Sunnybrow Brown Trout v Football Club B; Queen’s Head v Hogan’s; Prospect Club v Black Horse Mackems.
