WORTHINGTON C.I.U. Summer League

 

                Hunwick A won the battle of the promoted teams at Sherburn Village in the decider. Martin Perry, with a 47 break, put the visitors ahead but Scott Mallaburn equalised. Dale Wilson restored Hunwick’s lead only to see John Bower level. In the decider Hunwick’s captain, Neville Blenkinsopp put in a decisive 32 break to beat Andrew Stephenson.

                In the local derby at Meadowfield, Billy Ward was the only winner for the visiting Durham City. The hosts had wins from Malcolm Hughes, Stephen Hughes, Steven Jackson and Michael McNay.

                Fishburn were twice ahead at Newton Aycliffe with wins from Brian Quest and John Dunn. Richie Young and Peter Watson equalised before Alan Keeney beat the visiting Andrew Nicks in the decider.

                Wingate A made a good start to the season when they only dropped one point at Spennymoor, who had Alan Clarke as their only winner. David Wallace, Jimmy Mason, David Carr junior and Stephen Allen won for the visitors.

                Division One – Meadowfield 4 Durham City 1; Newton Aycliffe 3 Fishburn 2; Sherburn Village 2 Hunwick A 3; Spennymoor 1 Wingate A 4.

                The newly promoted Stanley Central went behind after Kris Coils put the visiting Sacriston ahead. However the home team took over and won the remaining four points through Jason Johnson, Alan Hogarth, Rob Hogarth and Darren Talbot.

                Dean Jones made a 45 break for Thornley in their odd point home win over Langley Park. Malcolm Pear at Michael Vicary put the visitors ahead but Ian Dinsdale and Arthur Peachey joined Jones as winners for the hosts.

                Ferryhill A clinched victory at Hunwick B when Jonathan Lewis, Trevor Bowden and Adrian Jones won the first three frames. Hunwick kept the defeat to a minimum when Barry Fleming and Vickers Bell won the last two frames.

                Shildon Elm Road were twice ahead against the visiting Crowtrees when John Tomlinson and Paul Armstrong won. Peter Laverick and Sonny Hann equalised before the visiting Keith McLaughlan beat Lee Gardiner in the decider.

                Division Two – Stanley Central 4 Sacriston 1; Hunwick B 2 Ferryhill A 3; Thornley 3 Langley Park 2; Shildon Elm Road 2 Crowtrees 3.

                Association newcomers, Stanhope went down by the odd point at New Durham, who had wins from Willie Bentham, Robert Charlton and Gordon Bowes, whilst Neil Coates and Adam Dobson replied for the dalesmen.

                The other newcomers, Wingate B had a baptism of fire against the visiting Trimdon Colliery, who had wins from Gary Scott, Wayne Scott, Robert Jones and Steve Gillan before Alan Hart won the final frame.

                Winter wooden spoonists, Crook Belle Vue took the first four frames against the visiting Cockton Hill with wins from Alan Rose, Glynn Hambleton, Ian Turner and Charlie Donaghy before Colin Walker saved the Hill from the dreaded duck.

                Stuart Roddam and terry Roddam took the first and last frames for Ferryhill B against the visiting Bearpark, who went to victory with wins from Tony Wilson, Dean Ward and Gerard McLoughlin.       

                Division Three – Wingate B 1 Trimdon Colliery 4; Crook Belle Vue 4 Cockton Hill 1; Ferryhill B 2 Bearpark 3; New Durham 3 Stanhope 2.

C.I.U. Winter League

 

                The winners and runners-up of all competitions organised during the season will receive their awards at the League Presentation Evening held at Crowtrees Club on Friday, 29 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are £2.00 each and can be reserved by telephoning Peter Laverick on 07762 024009.

                The Executive Committee hope that all teams will be represented to recognise the achievements of fellow players before the league changes from its C.I.U. status to an open association.
