DERBY’S FIRST win

 

Bishop Auckland League

 

                In the basement battle, the Derby recorded their first win by beating the Queen’s Head by three points. The home side had two points from Geoff Ryder and one each from David Lowes, Dave Eldrett, Paul Proud and Chris Wilkinson, whilst the queen’s had one point each from Jason Baird, Steve Watson, John Dowsey and David Teeder. Proud and Eldrett added the doubles for the Derby before Mark Wilkinson and Mo Rouse shred the captains’ games.

                The New Market moved to the top of the table after they only dropped two points at the Cumberland, who had wins from Dave Flory and Peter Dunning. The visitors had two each from Michael Burke, Martin Umpelby, and Craig Hardy with David Murray and Shaun Umpelby adding one each. Murray and Hardy added the doubles before Burke beat Billy Barker in both captains’ games.

                The thriller at the leading Miners Arms A saw them edge through by the odd point after beating the visiting Top Hat in the deciding captains’ game.

                The hosts went ahead with two singles wins from Gavin Robinson and one each from Mally Ryder, Craig Coulson, Gareth Duff and Brian Robinson, whilst the Hatters replied with two from Andrew Morley and one each from Dean Mains and Geoff Brown. Tony Biddle joined Brown to add the doubles and Mains won the first captain’s game to equalise. In the decider the Miners’ Gavin Robinson beat Andrew Morley.

                The RAFA Club continued their good run by recording their fifth consecutive victory. The visiting Miners B went behind when the hosts had two points each from Dave Gaskins and Anthony Gaskins with one each from Gary Dickenson and Les Daniel. The visitors replied with wins from Jason Ashton, Kenny Tait, John Jo Simpson and Bradley Ashton. Daniel and Dickenson added the doubles before the two captains’ games were shared.

Crook League

 

                The Travellers Rest B’s hopes of a trophy position was put on hold when they were held to a draw at Tow Law New Market, who had two points from Alan Ogilvie and one each from Ryan Coates, Paul Tiernan, Craig Hardy and Gavin Tennant before Shaun Umpelby and Paul Eastwood added the doubles. The visitors replied with two from Brian Wright and one each from Jim Ainsley, Arthur Hope, Neil Campbell and Charlie Dixon with Campbell and Dixon adding the doubles.

                The Blue Bell entertained the Grey Bull and took the first two points with wins from Grant Scott and Ant Stephenson. The Bell equalised through Paul Coombs and Stuart Brown, but Brian Jones and Derek Iddon restored the Bell’s lead. The Bull took the first doubles but the Bell completed their victory by adding the last two doubles.
