DURHAM SUNDAY Cup Semi Final

Last Sunday saw the semi-final of the Durham Sunday Cup between two Goals Stockton Sunday League teams when Norton George & Dragon entertained Hardwick Social Club and this turned into a scrappy game spoilt by a blustery wind.  Hardwick Social Club started brightly and James Ward opened the scoring on 11 minutes, Norton George & Dragon equalised in the 23rd minute when a corner was scrambled home by Jake Marron.  The winner came in the second half on the hour mark when a free kick from the right wing was sent in by Kallum Hannah and was misjudged by the keeper and ended in the back of the net.  This will be the third year in a row Hardwick Social Club have made the final where they will meet Newton Aycliffe WMC.  

Ian Gorman Memorial Trophy

Thornaby Village entertained Norton WMC in the second round of the Ian Gorman Memorial Trophy in an all premiership clash and ran out comfortable 7-0 winners with goals from Adam Holland, Charlie Raby, Stephen Preston, Dale Hobson, Glenn Corkain, Adam Dickerson and Matthew Waters.  In the third round second division Thornaby Aerodrome Club entertained premiership Portrack and put up a spirited performance before going down 3-0 to two goals from Daniel Rowbotham and one for Ian Thompson.

Stephen Wells Memorial Trophy 

It was quarter final ties in the Stephen Wells Memorial Trophy where Billingham Cowpen Club entertained Stockton Red Lion and it was the home side who booked a semi-final spot with a 4-0 win thanks to a hat-trick from Martin Fields and one goal for Billy Crookston.  Norton Red Lion enjoyed a 4-1 win against Roseworth Social with two goals each for Christian Selby and Matthew Watson, Anthony Shaw replied for Roseworth.  Stockton Hardwick entertained Grangefield Park and edged a tight affair by the odd goal in five, Dale Evans, Kieran Hares and Liam Westoby scored for Stockton Hardwick while John Fisher and Matthew Thomas replied for Grangefield Park.  Fairfield Sports & Social Club entertained North Ormesby Cons but it was the visitors who came out on top 7-3, star man was Lee Mahon who scored five, plus a goal each from Curtis Edwards and Liam Fawcett, Luke Spence with two and Chris Johnson replied for Fairfield Sports & Social Club. 

Premier Division

In the Premier Division only one game was played when The Royal entertained Thornaby Meerkats with the visitors edging the tie 4-3 thanks to a hat-trick from Marc Todd and one goal from James Brodie-Myers, The Royals goals from John Shepherd, Paul Cleary and Daniel Lincoln.

Division One

In Division One again only one game was possible when Storytellers United entertained Village Park Rangers and it was the visitors who edged the game by the odd goal in three, two goals from David Wilkinson and one from Shaun Thompson were the scorers.

Division Two

In Division Two Eaglescliffe moved level with Fairfield Sports & Social Club at the top of the table following their 3-0 win away to Thornaby Sports & Leisure, two goals from Johnathon Cairns and one for Euan Walker means it will be tight to the end of the season with both teams having three games left.  Billingham continued their recent good form with a 5-2 win away to The Oxbridge, two goals for Matthew Willshaw and one apiece for Adam Wilson, Andrew Cooper and Jack Bradburn, Shaun Baker scored both goals for The Oxbridge.
