THIRSK were very proud to win three awards at The Hambleton District Council (HDC) Sports Awards for North Yorkshire.

They were presented by Councillors Bridget Fortune and John Prest, and Danny Hart, who was the 2011 Downhill Mountain Bike World Champion.

The event took place in Northallerton at the end of October. Bev Longthorne won the Service to Sport Award for her outstanding service to Thirsk and North Yorkshire Hockey.

Trevor Bosomworth was Coach of the Year for his incredible commitment to coaching across the county and finally Thirsk Under-14 Boys were awarded Junior Team of the Year on the back of a fantastic season.

Meanwhile at the weekend the Ladies first team were in strong form against Dewsbury.

Thirsk played great hockey to win 5-2 thanks to goals from Helena Youmans (2), Fran Houseman, Maisy Bradbury and Hannah Rogers. The Ladies second team were not so lucky against Batley losing to a single goal despite being arguably the better team.

Thirsk Men’s first team played Bosten Spa and opened the scoring through Paul Doyle. Boston equalised and despite the pressure Thirsk could not score further. The second team continued their dominant form with a 3-0 victory at Harrogate. Arthur Hunt broke the deadlock following a swift Thirsk counter and then added a second with great individual skill.

Harrogate held on despite numerous Thirsk chances until Sam Bosomworth and Josh Dale combined for Oliver Houseman to strike the third.

Thirsk Under-10 Girls A were in amazing form as they thrashed Huddersfield, York and Doncaster before winning a close encounter with Chapeltown and then drawing with Wakefield to win the league. Amelia Pollock scored six goals with Daisy Grainge, Hattie Councell, Marnie Scatchard, Madison Chapman and Holly Pears also getting on the scoreboard. Evie Haigh won player of the day. The B team were also in action. In match one they played Slazengers and that ended in a 1-1 draw with Keira Clements-Byrne scoring.

A 3-0 victory against York followed before Keira scored against Ben Rhydding to earn a 1-1 draw.

Connie Pride scored in a 2-1 defeat to Harrogate before also scoring together with Jemina Berry to earn Thirsk a 2-0 victory in the final match against Adel.
