Redcar Town Girls

THE Under 16s had an impressive 10-1 win over Middlesbrough Lionesses.

Redcar went into this derby with high expectations after a recent run of good results.

And it only took Alice Hutchinson 20 seconds to get Redcar’s first goal with a darting run in from the right and an unstoppable finish. With Lionesses still reeling from the early goal Alicia Henderson then slotted home Redcar’s second of the day with less than ten minutes on the clock.

Against the run of play Lionesses managed to catch Redcar on the break and finished clinically to make it 2-1.

With attack after attack, it was only a matter of time until Redcar scored again, and sure enough Henderson popped up to put her name on the score sheet again, closely followed by Shannon Higgins with her first goal for Town.

Courtney Handley netted her fourth goal in three matches to make it 5-1.

With half-time approaching Henderson picked up the ball on the half-way line and drove at the heart of Lionesses’ defence and scored to give her a hat-trick before half-time. Handley scored again against her old club to give Redcar a 7-1 lead at the break.

The second half got under way with Redcar throwing everything at Lionesses, only for their keeper to pull off save after save, before Megan Sullivan put away her first goal of the season with a cheeky chip into the roof of the net.

Faye Gardener put Redcar 9-1 up with a well-crafted goal and with seconds left the ball bounced kindly to Yasmin Cook who calmly scored her first goal in over four years to complete Redcar’s dominant performance.

Middlesbrough Lionesses Ladies beat Redcar Town Ladies 2-1.

Redcar took the lead after a superb corner from Gabs Wordsworth landed on the head of Em Fewster to bullet home and they nearly doubled their lead when the same combination tried the move again, only for the cross bar to come to Boro’s aid.

Middlesbrough equalised with a fine finish and Lisa Byrnes scored the winner for Boro with an unstoppable volley.

Beth Enderwick was Redcar’s Girl of the Match.
