JAMES BETHELL is set to scour the programme book for another imminent opportunity for Templetuohy Max after he recorded a decisive success in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap at Redcar.

The visored runner was soon at the head of affairs under Graham Gibbons and while many of his rivals were hard at work after turning for home, his jockey sat motionless until approaching the two-furlong marker.

Once given a reminder, the 7-1 shot stretched even further clear – and was even able to ease down in the closing stages to come home four lengths clear of Spirit Of France.

Bethell said: ‘‘Last time at Nottingham we gave the instructions to Darryll (Holland) not to be frightened, so he went and made the running and just got caught.

‘‘So we said to Graham to do the same, and it is always quite difficult to make that ground up on this fast ground. He just went on and on.

‘‘I’ll have to go home and see what there is for him, but I think he ought to come out under a penalty as you just wouldn’t know what the handicapper will do.’’ Gibbons had earlier produced another fine frontrunning ride on El Dececy, who made the most of a drop in class to land the Racing UK Sky 432 Selling Stakes.

Richard Fahey’s Total Impact bounced back to form when coming out on top in an exciting finish to the Weatherbys Bank Handicap.

The six-year-old had been without a victory since striking at Goodwood last July, but was sent off at 11- 2 to make a winning return from a break.

There were still plenty in with chances approaching the last of the five furlongs, but it was Paul Hanagan’s mount who passed the post in front, half a length ahead of 7-2 favourite Le Toreador.

Avonrose showed marked improvement from her debut when stretching clear of her rivals in the EBF Median Auction Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, the first leg of a double on the card for trainer Mark Johnston.

The juvenile was sent off at 16-1, having finished eighth of nine on her racecourse introduction here a fortnight ago, but only had to be punched out by Greg Fairley to beat Gwynedd by three and a half lengths.

Andrew Elliott was in trouble with the stewards for his ride on the fourth home, True Loves Kiss, after failing to weigh in.

His mount was consequently placed last with the jockey hit with a three-day suspension (June 9-11).

Those who took the oddson about Johnston’s Maqaam were made to sweat for their money in the Buy Your Tickets Online redcarracing.co.uk Maiden Stakes.

The newcomer was sent off at 8-11 to make a winning debut, but looked like having to settle for second as Peaceful Rule travelled the better of the two at the top of the straight.

Maqaam and jockey Tadhg O’Shea refused to go down with a fight, however, and after a tussle in the final furlong, Maqaam got on top by a head.

Minturno opened his account at the sixth attempt with a game victory in the Anderson Barrowcliff Handicap. The 11-1 chance appeared to have his work cut out close to home, but Willie Supple galvanised the colt to lead inside the closing stages.
