NORTH Yorkshire trainer Kevin Ryan has his sights fixed on the York Festival following Stormbringer’s impressive win under Tom Eaves in the opener at Redcar yesterday.

The Dutch Art colt was in command from the start and is an entry in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at the big York Festival later this month.

Hambleton-based Ryan said: "He built on his first run and did it really well. We think a lot of the horse."

Asked about whether he'd go for the Gimcrack, he added: "Let's get him home and see how he is but there's a fair chance."

Ryan went on to score a quickfire double as Caridade took the second race just as impressively.

This time ridden by Kevin Stott, the bay filly is owned by Hambleton Racing and syndicate manager Cosmo Charlton said: "She's well bred and shaped with a lot of promise on her first two starts so we thought she was the one to beat. That said, we weren't expecting her to do it quite so easily and she's clearly an above average filly."

Hernandoshideaway, trained by in-form Michael Dods, won the Watch Racing UK On BT TV Selling Stakes, under a powerful ride from Paul Mulrennan. Owned by David Batey, of Middridge, and Foster Watson, of Tyneside, he was bought at auction for £7,000.

Malton trainer Declan Carroll and jockey Ger O’Neill teamed up to win with Save The Bees, having won the same race a year ago with Mysterial.

Former champion jockey Jamie Spencer made the trip north to Redcar despite Glorious Goodwood being on and he made the journey pay off by winning the feature race, The Racing UK Straight-Mile Series Handicap Stakes, on David Simcock's Newmarket raider Hugin.

There was a real family affair in race six as Gemma Tutty rode a cracker to drive Gaelic Wizard home for mum Karen Tutty, who trains at Northallerton.

Connections had been considering not running because Gaelic Wizard likes it firmer.

"The jockeys in the first few races said the ground was on the easy side of good so we took our chance and I'm glad we did," said Karen.

"There are lots of races for him. He's versatile from a stiff five furlongs to seven and he loves Thirsk, where he won twice last season."

Scottish raider Yes You finished strongly to take the penultimate race for Iain Jardine under a good ride from seven pound claimer Jamie Gormley.

And Emily Bullock rounded the day off, winning the last race on Ellaal for her boss, Ruth Carr.

A five-timer winner last season for The Bottom Liners syndicate, Ellaal bounced back to form at 16-1 in the Betfair Novice Amateur Riders' Handicap.

The bang in form Stillington trainer said: "On his form last year he was chucked in but he just hadn't done it this season. Emily rode him really well and it's always nice when it's a win for someone in the yard."
