SEDGEFIELD RACECOURSE is gearing up for its biggest day of the year, with the course’s Boxing Day card expected to be a sell-out.

More than 4,000 racegoers will attend the County Durham track, with the first of seven races due to get underway at midday.

Sedgefield’s leading trainers, Brian Ellison, Sue Smith and Micky Hammond, are responsible for some of the 149 entries, along with local trainer Rebecca Menzies.

Yorkshire’s top trainer, Tim Easterby, and 2008 Grand National winner, David Pipe, are also represented, along with long-standing Sedgefield supporters Donald McCain, Dianne Sayers and Malcolm Jefferson.

As well as enjoying the action from Sedgefield, racegoers will also be able to watch live racing from Kempton Park, including the King George VI, on the big screen.

Jill Williamson, executive director of Sedgefield Racecourse, said: “We have put every effort into ensuring that this year’s Boxing Day event will be the best yet, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our customers for their continued support this year.

“Let’s make it a day remember. With over 1,500 advance tickets already sold for this event, it’s sure to be a sell-out.”
