TELESCOPE has confirmed his place at Royal Ascot after featuring among a group of Sir Michael Stoute’s big names working along the Rowley Mile yesterday morning.

Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s colt has yet to fulfil the hopes of his connections, winning last year’s Great Voltigeur but failing to make other targets due to problems.

Telescope has appeared on the track twice this season but has been dismissed by the same horse - subsequent Group One hero Noble Mission - in outings at Sandown and Chester.

He went over around a mile with The Queen’s pair Estimate and Bold Sniper, with the former looking in fine shape under Ryan Moore as she builds towards the defence of her Gold Cup title.

“He worked very well, Sir Michael was very happy with him and hopefully it’s all systems go for the Hardwicke Stakes,” said Highclere managing director Harry Herbert.

“We knew he would need the run first time up at Sandown as he is a much more relaxed horse this year and was carrying a lot of condition.

It was very heavy ground and he got tired.

“We got closer to Noble Mission at Chester, but again it was bad ground.

Noble Mission has been out and won a Group One since.

“Stepping up to a mile and a half on hopefully better ground at Ascot, we’re hoping Telescope can really get his season up and running.”
