AJMANY failed to make the anticipated progress last term but he is worth another shot in the Happy 10th Birthday Racing UK Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar.

Luca Cumani’s charge looked set for a fruitful period after winning at Nottingham last July following a couple of decent efforts previously at Ascot and Doncaster.

Despite hanging across the track at Nottingham, he impressed in winning by upwards of three lengths and Cumani duly raised his sights to tackle a competitive heat at Goodwood, but he failed to make any sort of impact that day.

Another lacklustre effort at Kempton in September saw connections call time on the Kheleyf gelding’s season and the handicapper relented a fair bit before his reappearance at Newmarket last month, dropping Ajmany back to a mark of 89.

He duly ran a cracker on his seasonal return, going down by just a neck to a decent type in Niceofyoutotellme.

Ajmany showed plenty of promise in that performance and while the handicapper has taken a dim view in jacking him back up by 6lb, the fouryear- old may be more capable of defying that increased rating with the benefit of another winter under his belt.

Cumani likes to send some decent types for this race and with previous winners in the last few years including his pair of Danadana and Forte Dei Marmi, it could pay to keep on the right side of Ajmany.
