BIOGRAPHER failed to make the expected impact last term but further improvement is anticipated as he makes his seasonal bow in the totepool EBF Stallions Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham.

David Lanigan’s charge looked a hugely promising recruit to the staying ranks when progressing from handicap company to win at Listed level in 2012, and his initial effort when fourth at Newmarket last spring marked him as a likely type for some of the better distance events.

However, he really does need a bit of cut, and fast ground saw him miss out at Royal Ascot, while quickish conditions at Sandown in July were far from ideal.

Disappointment followed at Newbury in August, but with some juice in the ground at Doncaster, Biographer ran a much better race when fourth in the Doncaster Cup, while his final effort on Champions Day at Ascot was pretty decent as he came from the back of the field to finish a two-anda- half-length sixth.

He was never nearer than at the finish that day so there were plenty of positives to take out of the run and considering he has 3lb or more in hand of all his rivals bar High Jinx, Biographer makes plenty of appeal.

Pearl Secret is rated a potential sprinting star so he should really be winning the totepool Lola Faulkner Conditions Stakes if he is to live up to expectations.

He made great strides through his three-year-old season, progressing from a Doncaster handicap in the spring to claim a Listed heat at Sandown in June 2012, before being stepped up to Group One level for that year’s Nunthorpe.

He was far from disgraced in ninth and connections set their sights on the top sprint events in 2013.

His season got off to a cracking start with a fine third behind Sole Power and Shea Shea in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, but that was the beginning and end of his campaign.

He subsequently fractured a bone in his leg and David Barron’s team have done really well to get him back to the track after such a serious injury.

Pearl Secret may be a bit ring-rusty but his undoubted class is expected to carry him through.

Piazon is worth supporting as he has his first shot outside of maidens and novice company for Michael Bell.

Winner of one of his three starts as a juvenile, Piazon came unstuck at Chepstow last June, when he took a very keen hold and got mowed down at the finish by Legend Rising, who was thought good enough to run at Royal Ascot subsequently.

Piazon has a lengthy absence to overcome in the toteplacepot Racing’s Favourite Bet Handicap, but Bell is more than capable of having one ready first time out.

Outback Traveller won two of three starts last year and can further enhance those statistics in the 32Red Tomb Raider Slot Handicap at Lingfield.

He has shown a particular affinity for this six furlongs, making an impressive handicap debut when scoring last October, and could still have a few pounds in hand of the handicapper.

Poitin has thrived for a step up to two miles and tackles that trip again in the Betdaq No Premium Charge Handicap at Kempton.
