SUNDERLAND (4-1-4-1):
6 Pantilimon: Caught out by a wicked bounce by diving too early for the goal but otherwise strong;
6 Vergini: Could have scored one of his own before failing to prevent Chester from scoring
5 Coates: Hard to remember too much that went right or wrong for the South American, pretty straight forward
6 O’Shea: Decent enough in the middle again without ever being at his best
6 JONES: Started brightly but will not have expected his first start since October to have been as difficult as it was;
6 Cattermole: Angered by a number of decisions from Marriner but at least he was not red carded this time;
6 Johnson: After a brilliant start he became as frustrated as the rest of the Sunderland camp and largely ineffective in the second half
6 Larsson: A busy enough figure in red and white without ever hitting the heights he reached at Newcastle
4 Gomez: Not involved as much as he would have liked and, rightly or wrongly, conceded the free-kick in build up to Hull’s second
4 Alvarez: Faded far too quickly and was largely non-existent after the restart;
4 Fletcher: His best moment was when he cleared a chance off his own line to prevent Hull from scoring, which says it all for a striker
Subs:
Giaccherinni (for Alvarez 62): Gave the ball away too often on his return. 4
Altidore (for Gomez 62): Offered very little again. 4
Buckley (for Vergini 84)
(not used): Mannone (gk), Bridcutt, Brown, Rodwell.
HULL CITY (5-3-2): McGregor 6; Elmohamady 6, Bruce 7, Davies 3, Chester 7, Rosenior 6; Quinn 6, Meyler 7, Brady 7 (Ince 88); RAMIREZ 7 (Sagbo 77); Aluko 5 (Jelavic 88). Subs: Harper (gk), Figueroa, Hernandez, Maguire.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Gaston Ramirez – got lucky with his first and then teed up the second for Chester to put Hull on their way.
Full-time: Sunderland 1 Hull City 3
