LOUDER calls for David Moyes to step down as manager could be heard as Sunderland’s final home game of a disastrous season in the Premier League ended in defeat.

The already-relegated Black Cats lost for the 24th time out of 36 matches and for the 11th time in front of their own frustrated and disillusioned supporters at the Stadium of Light.

Swansea took another step towards avoiding the slide into the Championship along with Sunderland and Middlesbrough by securing a comfortable win which arrived cheaply.

Spanish striker Fernando Llorente headed Swansea in front in the ninth minute before adding to the lead moments before the half-time whistle through full-back Kyle Naughton.

The Sunderland fans regularly called for Moyes to lose his job, even though he has suggested he is ready to stay after hearing from owner Ellis Short – who was in the directors’ box to hear the calls - that he is wanted.

And Moyes’ players struggled to pose a threat to the Swansea goal, where Lukasz Fabianski only had to make one real save when he denied Jermain Defoe at his near post in the first half.

By the look of the huge swathes of empty seats in the home sections of the Stadium of Light, plenty of Sunderland fans had expected this defeat and didn’t want to witness it.

But those who did turn up in hope had to watch a further afternoon of frustration in a football sense, even though relegation to the Championship had already been confirmed.

Sunderland, whose only change to the side that won at Hull was Seb Larsson’s recall for the injured George Honeyman, faced an uphill struggle after conceding the early goal.

Gylfi Sigurdsson floated over the brilliant free-kick from just inside the Sunderland half. Jordan Pickford raced off his line and failed to connect, so Llorente calmly flicked a header into the empty net.

It was a rare mistake from Pickford and he was picking the ball out of the net again in stoppage time at the end of the first half.

This time Ki Sung-Yeung, who spent time on loan at the Stadium of Light during Gus Poyet’s time in charge, rolled a lovely pass behind Javier Manquillo for Naughton to run onto.

Naughton controlled and powered a finish inside Pickford’s far post and that led to huge chants of ‘Moyes out’ and boos greeted the half-time whistle from every corner of the ground.

The second half was played a pretty friendly tempo, with Swansea satisfied with the scoreline and the three points that has lifted them four points clear of third from bottom Hull.

Sunderland are also likely to have seen the last of Victor Anichebe and Jason Denayer. Both players had to go off through injury and their expiring deals, one loan and one permanent, may have to miss the dates with Arsenal and Chelsea.

There were some late efforts at goal, but neither Jermain Defoe nor Wahbi Khazri could find a way past Fabianski. Billy Jones wasted the best of the chances when he directed a rebound opportunity wide from close range.
