Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley wants his players to cut out needless errors when they travel to Tamworth in the Vanarama National League North today.

Moors suffered their first home defeat of the season to York City on Tuesday night, but despite trailing 3-0 at half time on their way to a 4-2 defeat, Ainsley was quite pleased with the performance – except for some of the defending.

Moors are fifth in the table just ahead of Blyth on goal difference, and Ainsley said; “There were lots of positives in our performance, but four errors cost us the game. I thought it was a very good performance, but we had an horrendous spell in the first half when we gave goals away.

“We must cut out the errors. Out of the last seven goals that we’ve conceded, two have been own goals, two more have been mistakes, and three have been penalties – all of them avoidable. The opposition hasn’t had to work too hard for their goals, we’ve handed them over.

“I thought in open play, we were outstanding, and we were the fitter and stronger team, even though they are a full time team. I thought we looked our best this season going forward, so there were lots of positives from that point of view. I was prouder of the players on Tuesday when we lost, than when we have won matches this season.”

Ainsley will only be missing one player, midfielder Ryan Hall, but in the light of Tuesday night’s defensive performance, he might be tempted into making changes in that area.

Moors have now played nine matches in their new adventure , and Ainsley said; “Things are going well at the moment, but we’re not getting carried away by our victories, and equally we don’t get too downhearted if we lose. There are some very good teams in this league, and we can’t expect to win every week.”

Tamworth, who play on a 3G pitch, are currently ninth in the table. They have drawn their last two matches by 0-0, against North Ferriby and Brackley away, and have won their last three home games.
