Frickley 0 Spennymoor Town 2.

Spennymoor recovered from their weekend hiccup to keep firm hold of second place with a 2-0 away win at Frickley, and also ensure a place in the play offs.

They now have a two point cushion in second place, as Nantwich lost at home to Workington.

Moors started the game well. Shane Henry and Adam Mitchell both had chances, then Graeme Armstrong had a header tipped over the bar by Frickley keeper Sebastian Malkowski.

Armstrong headed another Mitchell cross over the top before they took the lead on 10 minutes when Armstrong headed against the bar. The ball was cleared out to the right, but it was crossed again into the middle where Armstrong’s header was blocked by the keeper, but Andy Johnson was on hand to score.

Johnson had two more chances to increase the lead before half time. Firstly, he blazed over from just a few yards out, and then fired straight at Malkowski.

Moors couldn’t get the important second goal, and Malkowski came to Frickley’s rescue when he pulled off another good save, from Rob Ramshaw on the hour.

But the introduction of sub Nathan Fisher gave them some valuable breathing space, and he was in the right place to fire home the second after Ramshaw burst down the right and played the ball across to him.

Moors stayed well in control after that, and they claimed that they should have had a late penalty for a foul on Fisher but were denied.

Team: Lowson, Griffiths, Curtis, Tait, Baldwin, Mitchell, Ramshaw, Henry, Johnson (sub Chandler 80), Dowson (sub Fisher 75), Armstrong (sub Taylor 65).

Subs: Mason, Anderson.

Whitby’s play off hopes suffered a blow when they were beaten 5-1 at Blyth. Luke Armstrong (2), David McTiernan and Dan Maguire scored for Blyth before half time, and after Dale Hopson pulled a goal back, Matthew Pattison finished them off.
