Skelmersdale 0 Spennymoor Town 2.
Spennymoor bounced back from their defeat at Sutton Coldfield at the weekend by beating bottom club Skelmersdale 2-0 tonight.
Moors have now pulled away from Nantwich, and are in clear second place by three points with three games left, but they still need at least five points to be sure of a play off place.
There wasn’t much to choose between the two teams in the first half, with Moors possibly showing the effects of their fifth game in ten days.
Their first real chance went midway through the half to defender Chris Mason, whose header from a corner was blocked, and Jamie Chandler fired over the bar.
Moors nearly took the lead straight after the restart, when Kallum Griffiths crossed for James Curtis to head towards the top corner, but Skelmersdale keeper Joe Hilton saved well.
And Moors broke through on 48 minutes, when Skelmersdale defender Josh Dobie turned a shot by Graeme Armstrong past his own keeper.
Keeper Dan Lowson made a good save from Steve Irwin to keep Moors in front, but it was nearly 2-0 when David Dowson headed a corner just over the bar, and then Glen Taylor missed an easy header from close range.
Another chance went begging when Curtis put a header wide from a few yards out.
But those missed chances were forgotten with a minute left when Taylor fired past Hilton from the edge of the box.
Spennymoor: Lowson, Griffiths, Curtis, Mason, Baldwin, Ramshaw, Chandler, Henry (sub Mitchell 51), Anderson (sub Johnson 77), Taylor, Armstrong (sub Dowson 82) Subs: Tait, Fisher.
