Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley wants the same again from his players when Rushall Olympic visit the Brewery Field in the EvoStik League on Saturday afternoon.

Moors produced an outstanding performance to defeat league leaders Blyth on Tuesday night, to propel them up to fourth place and firmly into the play off places.

“I told the players before the game on Tuesday night that we have fifteen cup finals to play, and our win over Blyth was the first one,” he said.

“My players were excellent on Tuesday night, and that’s the difficulty. They can get up for these games, they were focused and they knew what was at stake. They put on a performance. But we’ve only won one game of football, and we haven’t hit the heights that I’ve expected on a consistent basis, we’ve only done it in individual games. We’ve got fourteen games left, and we’ve got to make sure that we put a run together and get as many points on the board as possible to take us further up the league.

“I can’t question the desire and the workrate of the players, but goals change games.

“We’ve got a great team, and a great set of individuals, but they’ve got to do it week in and week out. We drew 3-3 at Stafford in our last away game, and we got three points on Tuesday night, so we won’t be too far away if we keep doing that. You can have as many games in hand if you want, but you need to have the points on the board.

“But we must be ready to do battle, because if we don’t, then Rushall will turn us over, that’s the sort of league this is – as we have found out already this season.”

Ainsley could choose an unchanged side this afternoon.

Meanwhile, league leaders Blyth are at Sutton Coldfield, and Whitby are at Mickleover Sports.
