The title race is now between South Shields and Morpeth after second placed North Shields were beaten 2-1 at home by Morpeth.

Curtis Coppen hit the bar for North Shields midway through the first half, but Morpeth took the lead just on half time when Liam Henderson split the Shields defence for Joe Walton to round keeper Kyle Hayes and score, then eight minutes into the second half Walton finished off a good move for the second.

Shields pulled a goal back through Rob Taylor after 82 minutes.

Morpeth are now seven points behind South Shields with a game in hand, with the two clubs meeting this Saturday.

West Allotment are down after they lost 6-1 at home to Penrith, for whom Martyn Coleman four.

In the second division, Thornaby severely damaged Heaton Stannington’s promotion chances with a 2-1 win, Gary Mitchell scoring their winner, while Ryton and Crawcrook remain firmly on the bottom after losing 2-0 at Brandon.

Esh Winning are still in the bottom two after losing 2-1 at Blyth Town.
