Bishop Auckland are hoping for the same again when they take on Trafford in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup today.

Bishops defeated Ossett Albion who are in the same division, the EvoStik First Division North, as Trafford, in the last round at Heritage Park in one of their best wins of the season so far by 5-1.

“I’m pleased we’ve got a home draw,” said manager Steve Riley. “We know that it will be a difficult task especially after the derby game against West Auckland in midweek, but I believe that we can cause Trafford problems if we play our normal game.”

Priestley Griffiths, Andre Bennett and Scott Martindale will all have fitness tests, while Hartlepool have given permission for Dillon Elliott to play.

If Bishops win, it will be the first time they have reached the third qualifying round since 1999.

Shildon are also up against EvoStik League opposition in Workington, whom they beat on their way to the first round proper 14 years ago.

Manager Gary Forrest expects to have a full squad available, except for injured defender Matty Robson. “The pressure is all on Workington, we’re going there to enjoy the game.”

Workington are currently 16th in the EvoStik Premier League, the same division as Stourbridge, whom Shildon beat last season.

Dunston UTS are at home to Chorley, who are currently fifth in the Vanarama North, three divisions higher.

Jack Ashton will return to a Dunston squad that had a good midweek win at Washington, and manager Billy Irwin said; “We go into the game as big underdogs, but we’ve got nothing to lose. We will give the game everything and have a right go.”

Consett have a difficult away tie at Curzon Ashton from the Vanarama North, and they will be without their top scorer Luke Sullivan, while there will be fitness tests for Michael Sweet, Lewis Teasdale and defender Matty Slocombe.

Consett won away at Harrogate RA in the last round, but manager mark Eccles knows that this will be a much tougher game. “We played in midweek whereas they didn’t. I haven’t had a look at them myself but I’ve got a few reports on them. It will be a very tough against a team that likes to play football like ourselves which should produce a very entertaining game, hopefully with us coming out on top.”

Curzon Ashton are currently fourth bottom in the table, having won just twice in the league all season.

Morpeth have a tasty local derby at neighbours Blyth and they have injury doubts over Sean Taylor, Luke Carr and Matty Halambiec.
