Middlesbrough’s Under 21 team won the North Riding Senior Cup for the second successive season with a 3-1 away win at Northern League Guisborough.
Middlesbrough nearly took the lead in the opening minutes with a free kick by Anzol Jakupovic that Guisborough keeper Nick Liversedge saved, then Alex Pattison fired just over the top.
Middlesbrough took the lead on 38 minutes when Pattison finished off a good move, then Jakupovic scored the second within a few minutes from a narrow angle.
Lewis Maloney nearly got a third, before Guisborough got back into the game when Middlesbrough keeper Luke Coddington pulled off a good save from Curtis Round.
Guisborough’s efforts were rewarded when Peter Bulmer scored from a good pass by Danny Earl on 61 minutes, but Jakupovic quickly made it 3-1 when he fired into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
In the Northern League, Esh Winning are looking for a new manager following the resignation for personal reasons of Wilf Constantine, who rescued the club from relegation on the last day of the season.
