Champions Shildon celebrated the presentation of the championship trophy in style when they thumped Ashington 8-1 at Dean Street last night.
They took the lead after just 6 minutes when Ben Wood broke through and sidefooted past Ashington keeper Conor Grant, then Bobby Moore made it 2-0 with a towering header from a right wing corner. Billy Greulich-Smith made it 3-0 before half time from the penalty spot after Wood was fouled.
Sub Paul Connor made it 4-0 soon after he came on as a sub, then Micky Rae got the fifth from the edge of the box. Kyle Downey pulled a goal back for Ashington, but Connor quickly made it 6-1 from a Greulich-Smith pass.
Connor then completed his hat trick when he took advantage of a mistake by Ashington defender Matty Grieves, and in the last minute Anthony Bell raced clear and scored the eighth.
Consett, who have appointed Mark Eccles as their permanent manager, won 2-0 at Morpeth.
In the second division Ryhope CW striker Connor Winter scored both his side’s goals in their 2-1 win at Birtley, giving him 35 league goals for the season and top scorr in the second division.
North Shields won the Northumberland Senior Cup by 4-3 against Blyth, Ryan Carr scoring a stoppage time winner.
