Newton Aycliffe came from behind to beat Washington 2-1 in the Durham Challenge Cup tonight.

Washington took the lead on 28 minutes with a powerful shot into the top corner by Mark Davison, but Aycliffe levelled in the second half with a John Campbell penalty after Zak Boagey was brought down.

Boagey won the game with a minute left when he turned in a Campbell free kick.

In the ENL, Consett won 2-1 at Ashington. Consett took the lead after just 42 seconds when Michael Sweet’s shot was blocked, and Luke Sullivan scored from the rebound. They went further ahead on 12 minutes, when Sullivan crossed for Sweet to head the second.

Andy Johnson pulled a goal back before half time for Ashington.

Bottom club Norton had a good 1-0 away win at Whitley Bay.

They took the lead after 54 minutes, when Matty Lovegreen turned home a low cross.

In the CBBM League Cup, Shildon won 3-0 at Durham City.

After a goalless first half in which they went close on three occasions, Shildon took the lead just after the break with an effort by Lewis Wing, and then he scored again a few minutes later. Ben Wood made sure that the holders advanced into the next round.

Esh Winning had a good 2-0 victory at Thornaby, Luke Hogan and Daniel Mann scoring the goals.

Marske beat Penrith 2-0 at Mount Pleasant.

Luke Bythway went close twice for Marske in the first half, before Nathan Mulligan and Adam Preston scored in the second half.
