Newton Aycliffe manager Adrian Webster quit soon after his team’s 3-2 defeat at Daisy Hill on Saturday.

Aycliffe were 2-0 up at one stage against their opponents from the North West Counties League, but they collapsed in the second half.

Webster took charge of the team just before the start of the season following the departure of Danny Mellanby, and has tried to combine playing with managing.

Chairman Allan Oliver said; “Adrian quit soon after the game on Saturday. We’re having a meeting on Monday night to decide what to do next.”

Tom Atkinson fired Aycliffe in front on 10 minutes, then former Hartlepool striker Zak Boagey added the second midway through the half.

But Daisy Hill pulled a goal back through Martin Hastings on 43 minutes, and on 70 minutes Jordon Hussey levelled from the penalty spot. Tim Raines scored the winner four minutes from the end.

Consett, who fancy their chances of having a good run in the competition, beat Thackley 2-1 at Belle View. They had to come from behind though, because Chris Davey put the Yorkshiremen in front on 14 minutes. However, Thackley centre half Liam Hudson deflected a Luke Sullivan shot into his own net on the half hour to put Consett back into the game.

The game was fairly even until Adam Nicholls headed the winner from a Calvin Smith corner with 20 minutes left.

Consett manager Kenny Lindoe said; “We never really got going to day. Too many misplaced passes in the final third. We were well below what we have been but still managed to win which is a good sign.”

Tow Law finished their 5-1 defeat at Barnoldswick with eight men, after they had two sent off and another taken off injured when they’d used all their subs. The home side led on 14 minutes through Joel Melia, and even though they had Chris Killeen dismissed, Lawyers got back to 1-1 with nine minutes left through Lewis Harrison.

But the game turned against them in extra time when Scott Brassell was dismissed for a foul, and Barnoldswick took full advantage and scored four times.

Tow Law manager Gary Anderson said; “The game was officiated by three officials who were shocking to say the least. They spoilt the game sending off two of our players for reasons nobody in the ground could believe. We started brightly but went a goal down. We dug in for the rest of the game and deserved to take the game to extra time but playing with nine men and then eight due to injury was always going to be a hard task.”

Darlington RA’s hopes of a shock against Sunderland RCA were stamped out when they were beaten 5-0 at Brinkburn Road.

The RCA never looked back after they scored early on through John Jury and Gavin Barton, and they scored further goals through Craig Price, Gary Guyan and another from Barton.

Sunderland RCA manager David Lee said; “It was a good professional performance away from home, and nice to keep a clean sheet for a change.”

Darlington RA manager Paul Bowman said; “After an even first half it was disappointing to concede four in the second half. We did give starts to some players who have just come back from holiday and injury. Overall, a fair result based on our second half performance.”

Marske United’s excellent start to the season continued when they won 2-0 at Hebburn. There were plenty of chances at both ends, and Marske took the lead when Josh MacDonald scored from a through ball by Reece Kelly. Marske keeper Robbie Deane pulled off a couple of good saves before his side clinched a place in the next round when Freddie Woodhouse scored with a shot on the turn.

Hebburn manager Scott Oliver said; “We missed a glorious opportunity to lead after 25 minutes then they scored. It was even for large parts of the game.”

Marske manager Carl Jarrett said; “It was a very tough game today. The lads had to dig deep and show the other side to our game. We’re very happy to go through to the next round.”

Ryhope CW sprang a surprise, beating Jarrow Roofing from a division above them by 3-2 in extra time.

Roofing took the lead just before half time through Paul Gardiner’s solo goal, but Ryhope levelled through Jack Pounder on 69 minutes. Jon Wright seemed to have a score a late winner for Roofing, but almost immediately Michael Charlton forced extra time. Four minutes into the extra period, Pounder headed the winner.

Ryhope CW manager Gary Pearson said; “It was a fantastic team performance resulting in a well-deserved win which if it wasn’t for the Jarrow keeper making five superb saves, we could have wrapped up in the first 90 minutes. We showed great character to come from behind twice, and our fitness levels told in the end.”

Birtley won their all ENL clash against Thornaby by 2-1, Matthew Soulsby scoring the winner from the spot in the last minute. Robert Smith gave Birtley the lead, with Stephen Morrison equalising.

Birtley manager Tony Boakes said; “It was a great team performance from us.”

Northallerton lost 1-0 at home to North Shields , Dan Smart scoring the winner for the first division side late in the game.

Northallerton manager Peter Mulcaster said; “It was a good performance against a top side.Young centre half Ross Teasdale at 17 years old had another great display.”

Willington lost by a single goal at South Shields, for whom Steven Graham scored in the first half.

Willington manager Rob Lee said; “If it was a league game, then a draw would have been a fair result.”

Chester-le-Street beat a physical Knaresborough 3-1. Jake Stafford gave Chester the lead after just 4 minutes, then Ben Johnson scored the second on the half hour. Johnson gave Chester some breathing space with the third on 75, before Knaresborough pulled a goal back.

Chester-le-Street manager Colin Wake said; “It was a well deserved win against a well organised big rough side, who went over the top with their intimidation at times, but it was still a good win. It wasn’t pretty but could have been more convincing.”

West Allotment bounced back from their 7-0 midweek defeat at Consett by beating Eccleshill 1-0, with a 20 yarder by David Henderson in the first half.

West Allotment manager Paul Stoneman said; “I asked for a reaction from Tuesday night and I got one. The lads put a good shift in, and some of them were immense considering that two of them haven’t kicked a ball this season.”

Billingham Town earned a replay tomorrow night against Ryton and Crawcrook with a 1-1 draw. Phil Hodges gave Ryton the lead before Joel Callender levelled for Town just before half time.

Billingham Town manager Darren Trotter said; “I thought it was a good game, two contrasting styles that we edged on chances. It will be a tough battle in the replay.”

Brandon’s poor scoring form continued when they were beaten 4-0 at Silsden in West Yorkshire, while Norton lost 3-0 at Holker Old Boys.

Norton manager Andy Campbell said; “It was a poor performance and we got what we deserved. We’re disappointed to be out of the Vase but we now have the league as our priority.”
