West Auckland have appointed Anth Smith as their new manager.

Smith, whose last job was at Gateshead, will take charge of West for the first time this Saturday against Darlington in the preliminary round of the FA Cup. He’s an old Sunderland team mate of Darlington boss Martin Gray.

West general manager Stuart Alderson said; “I think we’ve made a great choice. We’ve been inundated with applications, and couldn’t interview everyone, but Anth stood out.”

Smith takes over from Peter Dixon, who quit last week after five years in charge.
