Marske United have tonight parted company with manager Ted Watts, just six days after winning the Brooks Mileson Northern League Cup.

Watts, who was appointed in November 2012, guided Marske away from relegation last season, and to the last qualifying round of the FA Cup this season.

But a midseason slump of 20 games without a win appears to have prompted his departure. Chairman Peter Collinson said; “We had a bad run of games, and the atmosphere wasn’t good at all. Ted and I spoke two months ago, and we agreed to reconsider at the end of the season. The league position is important to us, and we couldn’t see a way forward. We need something different, and now’s the right time to make a change.”

Marske won the cup last Tuesday night by beating Whitley Bay with a penalty in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of extra time, their first silverware for 20 years.
