Spennymoor are aiming to win the Durham Challenge Cup for the first time in 15 years when they play Gateshead in the final at Eppleton on Friday morning.

Moors dominated the competition in the mid nineties, winning it in four successive years between 1994 and 1997, but they face tough opposition in the Conference club, who won it last season.

Moors boss Jason Ainsley, who will choose from a full squad, said: "It's about time that Spennymoor as a club got through to the Durham Challenge Cup final, it's long overdue. It should b a great occasion for our committee and our supporters.

"From a personal point of view, I'm hoping to win it as a manager because I did as a player a few times."

Gateshead have problems, with six players out injured, and another two out suspended. There are no restrictions on using first team players, but the Heed have Conference fixtures over the weekend and are still hopeful of a play off place, so they might use some of the club's Under 19 players in their squad.
