Newton Aycliffe manager Peter Dixon says that his side has the hardest tie in the third round of the FA Buildbase Vase on Saturdday.

Aycliffe face fellow Northern League side Morpeth, who are the Vase holders and beat Aycliffe 5-0 in the league earlier in the season.

“We’ve got the hardest draw in the whole of the country,” he said. “But we’ll give the game our best shot, and there’s no pressure on us. They’re one of the favourites to win the Vase again, and to be honest, we could have done with playing them later in the competition. We will have to be at our very best to go through.”

Striker Ben Wood will have a fitness test on ankle injury.

Morpeth, who beat Hereford United in the final at Wembley, will have a full squad to choose from.

Shildon are at the 2015 winners, North Shields, and they welcome back midfielder Lewis Dodds, who missed the midweek win over Washington because of a one match ban, while forward Amar Purewal and defender Dan Parker will both have fitness tests.

Shields are boosted by the return from injury of striker Gareth Bainbridge, as well as midfielders Peter Glen-Ravenhill and Craig McFarlane Shields have revealed that they will not be applying for promotion to the EvoStik League at the end of the season, the same decision as Shildon.

Shildon manager Gary Forrest said; “It’s a tough game and it will boil down to which team performs best in the final third and has that bit of good fortune. They’re unbeaten at home this season so we go into the tie as underdogs.”

The last remaining ENL Second Division side left in the competition, Billingham Town, are hoping to continue their exciting run when they go to Bottesford near Scunthorpe. Around 100 fans are following them to Lincolnshire for the game against the Northern Counties East League. Manager Barry Oliver will choose from a full squad.

Dunston UTS, the winners in 2012 are at home to Sunderland RCA in another all Northern League clash, and manager Chris Swailes, who was part of the team that won that day, chooses from a full strength side.

The RCA are without defenders Ross Preston and Adam McGuinness, who are both Vase tied, but Kev Gordon and Clayton Davies both return. There will be fitness tests for top scorer Colin Larkin and Michael Charlton.

South Shields, who are the competition favourites, are at home to Staveley, and they include new striker Michael Richardson, signed from Blyth, in their squad.

Lee Paul Scroggins, Gavin Cogdon and Louis Storey are all ruled out because of injury. Shields are hoping to reach the fourth round for the first time since 1994.

Staveley are currently midtable in the Northern Counties East League.

In the other tie, Penrith are at home to Atherton Collieries.
