Spennymoor are looking for swift revenge when they go to Ashton United in the EvoStik Premier League on Saturday.

Moors lost 2-1 to the Manchester side at the Brewery Field last weekend, which was their third successive defeat – their worst league run for ten years – and coach Alan White wants better defending from the players.

“Our defending hasn’t been good at all,” he said. “It was very frustrating to concede goals to players who weren’t marked.

“There haven’t been many times this season when we can turn round and say that the other team did well to open us up in order to score a goal, many of the goals that we’ve conceded could have been avoided. They’ve been down to individual mistakes, poor decision-making and doing the wrong things.

“We can coach the players certain things, but if players don’t do things right, what can you do? Players make decisions that make or break results.

“But there is still a long way to go, we’re not even at the halfway point of our fixtures yet. If we can start another run of four or five wins, then we can push on in January and win promotion.”

Midfielder Jamie Chandler is missing because of suspension, but striker Nathan Fisher and midfielder Rob Ramshaw have both shaken off knocks.

League leaders Whitby are at Rushall Olympic, one of their promotion challengers.

Blyth, who are fourth, are at home to Buxton, and have signed centre half David Atkinson on loan from Carlisle.
