Seaham Red Star manager Mark Collingwood has lost some of the players who helped the club win the Second Division title last season, but he feels that he has managed to replace them.

The Star have lost midfielder Lewis Wing, defender Chris Scott, attacking midfielder David Palmer, forward Warren Byrne to other clubs, while midfielder Tommy English and striker Adam Johnston have both retired, but Collingwood moved quickly to replace them.

In have come striker Robbie Bird from Whitley Bay, midfielder Paul Gardiner from Jarrow Roofing, Nicky Kane and David Scorer from Dunston, and striker Dan Robinson from Ryton.

“I’m optimistic that we’ll do all right in this division, because we’ve still got some very good players.

“This season will be a massive test for us. We’re in the second part of a three year phase. The first part was winning promotion, the second is to consolidate in the division.”
