North Shields lost a dramatic FA Cup tie on penalties to Scarborough Athletic last night, in which there were five penalties and four men sent off in the first 120 minutes.

Shields took the lead after 9 minutes when the visiting defence failed to clear a free kick, and Curtis Coppen drove the ball home from the edge of the box, but Scarborough levelled from the penalty spot through Bradshaw on 18 minutes. Gareth Bainbridge restored Shields’ lead with another penalty, but Williams levelled with another free kick into the top corner.

Shields had a let off when Bradshaw missed the third penalty of the night, but then Shields had Kevin Hughes dismissed. Williams put Scarborough 3-2 up from another penalty, then Shields had Ben Richardson sent off. But Shields levelled when Dean Holmes penalty was saved and James Luccock scored from the rebound. Scarborough then had Bradshaw dismissed for his second yellow in normal time, and after Robson put them in front, they had Chambers red carded. But Shields levelled again, this time through Adam Foster to take the game to penalties.

In the league, Shildon were beaten 1-0 at Guisborough, for whom Tommy Marron fired into the top corner from edge of the box on the hour.

Dunston UTS won 3-1 at Crook thanks to two goals in stoppage time by Andy Bulford and Dale Burrell. Dunston had taken the lead through Scott Fenwick before Jason Brazauskas equalised.

Bedlington beat Durham City 2-1. Bedlington took a two goal lead through Colin Morton and Dylan Williamson but City pulled a goal back through Ross Wilkinson.

In the second division, Norton beat Thornaby 1-0 with a late goal by Rocky Andrews.

Willington drew 1-1 at Birtley. Dean Hanson put them in the lead on 29 minutes, and five minutes later Kai Hewitson equalised.

Stokesley had a good 3-0 home win over bottom club Brandon. They took an early lead through Sean Mackin, then Ste Roberts scored twice more before half time
