West Auckland maintained their unbeaten record in league and cup when they won 2-0 at Billingham Town in the ENL last night.

It took them until the 36th minute to take the lead when John Campbell curled a free kick into the top corner of the net from 25 yards, but they didn’t break through again – mainly because of some good saves by Billingham keeper Graham Willey – until four minutes from the end when Phil Gray crossed for Callum Patton to score.

Billingham Synthonia won 2-0 at Hebburn. Mattie Osmond put them in the lead after 7 minutes, but they didn’t clinch the points until the last minute when Michael Sweet scored. Hebburn are still without a win this season.

Ashington easily defeated Sunderland RCA 4-0. Glen Taylor put them in front after 8 minutes, with Andrew Johnson scoring the second on the half hour.

Johnson made it 3-0 on 64 minutes and Marc Walton completed the scoring on 69 minutes.

In the Brooks Mileson Northern League Cup, Whitley Bay beat Willington 2-0 at Hillheads.

Willington defended well, and it took some time for Whitley to take the lead with a shot from 10 yards by Ash Davis, and then Paul Antony got the second with a half volley.

Consett came from behind to beat Chester-le-Street 5-4 after Chester were 4-1 up at one point.Michael Hepplewhite (2), a Dan Hall own goal and Jack Honour seemed to put Chester in control, but Consett hit back through a Michael Mackay hat trick and Luke Sullivan, who had put Consett into the lead in the 15th minute.

In the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup, Darlington RA beat Seaham Red Star 2-0, with two goals by Steve Allison.
