BOURNEMOUTH (4-4-2):
Begovic 4; Francis 5, S Cook 5, Ake 6, Daniels 4 (SMITH 46, 7); Stanislas 6, Gosling 7, L Cook 6, Fraser 4 (Mousset 63); King 5, Wilson 4 (Defoe 73).
Subs (not used): Boruc (gk), Simpson, Pugh, Surman.
NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):
6 Dubravka: Made a couple of excellent catches from crosses, but barely moved a muscle as Smith beat him from distance
7 Yedlin: Was one of Newcastle’s best players as he poured forward in the first half, but found himself over-run late on
8 LEJEUNE: Defending magnificently for the vast majority of the game, winning a succession of headers and tackles on the edge of his own box
7 Lascelles: Another impressive performance from the Newcastle skipper, even if it came with a sucker-punch at the end
6 Dummett: Solid for the most part in defence, and delivered the deep cross that helped set up Gayle’s second goal
6 Shelvey: Produced a sensational ball to help Ritchie set up Newcastle’s opener, but blotted his copybook with a hugely costly miss
6 Diame: Off the ball, he is magnificent, hassling opponents and shutting things down. His input on the ball is much less effective though
6 Ritchie: Delivered an inviting cross to set up Gayle’s opening goal and really put a shift in on his return to his former home
6 Perez: Formed an effective partnership with Gayle for most of the game, but wasted a golden opening in the second half
5 Kenedy: Was much the quietest of Newcastle’s attacking players, and his set-pieces weren’t at the standard he set against Man United
8 Gayle: Was in the right place at the right time on two separate occasions, and is looking sharper than he has all season
Subs:
6 Atsu (for Kenedy, 64): Should have enabled Shelvey to seal it when he delivered a square ball into the box
Hayden (for Gayle, 77)
Manquillo (for Ritchie, 84)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Clark, Merino, Joselu.
Man Of The Match: FLORIAN LEJEUNE – Newcastle might have conceded two late goals, but that shouldn’t detract from the quality of the Spaniard’s defensive display for the vast majority of the game.
