NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):
6 Elliot: Wasn’t at fault for any of the three goals and made a good second-half save to turn Smith’s low shot around the post
5 Janmaat: Defensively shaky, especially for Bournemouth’s third goal, but tried to get forward and at least forced Boruc into a save
4 Taylor: Unfortunate to score an own goal, but was exposed on a number of occasions – goodness knows what he was doing when King scored
4 Lascelles: Another difficult afternoon for the centre-half, who is still to prove he can cut it at the highest level - made a lot of errors
5 Dummett: Didn’t start particularly well, with his injury problems reappearing to force him off shortly after the half-hour mark
4 Colback: Was shuffled back to left-back after Dummett hobbled off, and didn’t seem to know whether to hang back or attack
6 SHELVEY: The pick of Newcastle’s players and one of the few people to show a bit of fight – produced a lovely ball for Perez’s goal
3 Sissoko: The latest in a long line of dreadful performances from the Frenchman – the decision to replace him was rightly applauded
5 Perez: Didn’t look sharp for most of the game, but deserves credit for the composed manner in which he converted his goal
3 Wijnaldum: Has a lofty reputation, but simply hasn’t lived up to it for the last few months – offered absolutely nothing in the final third
3 Riviere: Wasn’t expected to be playing – and it’s hard to say that he did for most of the time he was on the field. Dreadful
Subs:
4 Anita (for Dummett, 31): Took over in central midfield after McClaren shuffled things around but couldn’t get close to Bournemouth’s midfielders
5 Mitrovic (for Riviere, 46): Offered more than the player he replaced, although that’s not saying much – curled a decent effort narrowly wide
5 Aarons (for Sissoko, 68): Newcastle were already all over the place when he arrived – is one of the few players who deserves more of a chance
(not used): Darlow (gk), Saivet, Gouffran, Doumbia.
BOURNEMOUTH (4-4-2):
Boruc 6; SMITH 8, Francis 7, Cook 6, Daniels 8; Ritchie 8 (Distin 90), Gosling 7, Surman 7, Gradel 6 (Pugh 60, 6); King 8, Afobe 7 (Grabban 69, 6).
Subs (not used): Federici (gk), Elphick, O’Kane, Murray.
Man Of The Match: ADAM SMITH – The Bournemouth full-back was everything Newcastle weren’t – committed, energetic and hugely effective.
