MIDDLESBROUGH'S first deal of transfer-deadline day has seen midfielder Carlos de Pena move to Spanish side Real Oviedo on a season-long loan.

De Pena joined Boro in a £2.7m move from Nacional in 2015, but has failed to establish himself in the Teessiders' first team.

He has made just ten senior appearances for Boro, and has not featured in Aitor Karanka's first team at all this season.

He has joined a Real Oviedo side currently sitting in tenth position in Spain's Segunda Division.

Speaking about de Pena at his press conference yesterday, Karanka said: "I heard that he is going to Spain, but I don’t know. I don’t know because I don’t want to know. I said after the game on Saturday that I didn’t want to know anything. But I heard something.

"I couldn’t bring his best. He is a really good player, and he is also a really good kid."
