VIKTOR FISCHER should be officially confirmed as a Middlesbrough player later today, and the winger’s international boss has tipped him to be a huge hit at the Riverside.

Fischer agreed a £3.8m move from Ajax at the end of last week, but his move could not be formally ratified until the international transfer window reopened.

That happens later today, and Fischer will be available to link up with his new team-mates when Boro’s pre-season schedule begins next month.

The 21-year-old has been on international duty with Denmark in the last couple of weeks, and was a key factor in his side’s resounding 4-0 Kirin Cup win over Bulgaria in Japan.

Tottenham winger Christian Eriksen claimed a hat-trick in the win, but his fellow wide-man Fischer claimed three assists and Danish boss Age Hareide was delighted with his input.

Fischer also scored as Denmark drew their opening Kirin Cup game with Bosnia last Friday, and Hareide is confident he will get even better with experience of the Premier League.

“Fischer is unique,” said Hareide. “We don’t have many players like him – he’s strong, aggressive and has depth.

“I hope this kind of (performance) is a breakthrough for Fischer because we need an attacker like him. He played a big part in the victory.

“He was fantastic – outstanding – and it was really great to see. He has had a great tournament here in Japan, and now he’s going to Middlesbrough. If he plays, he’ll get even better.”

Meanwhile, Boro officials yesterday revealed the club have now sold more than 20,000 season tickets for their first season back in the Premier League.
