MIDDLESBROUGH'S trip to Leeds United has been confirmed for a new date of Monday, February 15 (7.45pm).

The rescheduling was the subject of fierce debate between Football League officials and Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino, who is furious at the number of times his club has been selected for live television coverage.

Cellino had threatened to prevent Sky crews from entering Elland Road, but Tuesday’s confirmation of the new date ends the impasse.

Fans of both teams took to social media on Tuesday night to vent their frustration at the date change.

VectorBoro, ‏@vectorboro,  tweeted: "The rescheduling of the Leeds/Boro game is an absolute joke. No thought for the fans at all and they have broken their own guidelines."

While Tracy Foord Jones, ‏@TracyFoord,  wrote: "So are @SkyFootball going to compensate Leeds fans who've paid for travel and hotels to Boro match? Don't move games once tickets sold."

Mark Whelpton on Facebook said he agreed with Cellino.

"The people who lose out are the people who put there money into the club," he wrote. "Don't get me wrong I'm happy for people who can't afford to get to games to see their team, but all these changes mean those of us who work nights now have been told that three games have been taken from the calendar (and) replaced by three night games."

Darlington Labour councillor Linda Hughes was angered by the switch, describing it as a "complete disregard for fans who will have already made plans to attend".
