AITOR KARANKA remained tight-lipped over the loan move for AC Milan goalkeeper Michael Agazzi ahead of tomorrow night’s Capital One Cup second round tie at Burton Albion.

Agazzi is understood to be training with Boro at Rockliffe Park, but the Middlesbrough head coach would not be drawn on whether a deal was imminent.

“We are working in that position but at the moment there is nothing,” said Karanka.

Karanka has stressed the need for two strong players in every position and believes that a new goalkeeper at the club will give Dimi Konstantopoulos the competition the squad needs.

Asked whether the Agazzi situation had been explained to the first-choice keeper, Karanka said: “I don’t need to explain anything to him.

“Everyone knows that we are trying to have a good squad, and to have a squad you have to have the best players. We brought in David Nugent and Stuani and all of them know that they are coming here to improve the squad.

“The players here know that it’s difficult to keep their position for every Saturday. It’s a different position but they know that if someone is coming in, the keepers here have to fight for the position which is good for everybody.”
