DIEGO FABBRINI has called on his Middlesbrough teammates to keep up the good work after picking up their first league win of the season, with the on-loan Italian taking a starring role.

Fabbrini scored a 25-yard screamer and set up the other two in a 3-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers, but is well aware that the season is in its infancy and that Boro’s need to maintain their good start is imperative.

"The whole team played well, and now we must think ahead to Tuesday because that is an important match,” said the on-loan Watford attacker, looking towards tomorrow’s match against Derby County.

"All games are important. If we want to get to the Premier League, we must try to win every game. Tuesday is no simple match.

"The Championship this season is very hard. This was the first game at home and we started very well and 3-0 is a good result. The team played very well. Now we must continue.”

For Fabbrini, it was a home debut at the Riverside Stadium, and the former Udinese man was impressed with what he saw.

"I'm very happy, for me and for my team. It wasn't simple to play against Bolton but it was a brilliant match,” said the 25-year-old.

"We played very well in the first half. We scored three and we could have scored more, but we are happy.

"This is a beautiful stadium and the first time I play here. It's good fans and it was a good result. I enjoy it here.

"When I came here my team-mates helped me settle in very quickly. I'm happy and want to continue in this direction.

"I wasn't surprised. When I decided to come here I knew I was coming to a big club, with very good players and manager.

"I must try to improve my performance and keep doing well."

Karanka has been impressed with how easily Fabbrini has settled into the side.

He said: “When you arrive into a changing room like ours it is easier. We have an amazing changing room, the players have a very good relationship and it’s easy to come into. When you have quality players it is easier.

“When you are a good player, he’s young but experienced. You want to improve yourself and you’re in the right environment, it can be good for him. He can help us. I told him this week that I liked him but he needed to score more goals and he scored on Saturday.”
