LUCKLESS Luke George could miss the rest of Hartlepool United’s season.

Signed from Chester last summer, the midfielder has only made six starts due to a succession of injuries and niggles.

And the latest blow, a hamstring strain suffered in midweek at Aldershot, could end his campaign.

Hamstring and back problems have led to him having his wisdom teeth removed in a bid to find a solution to the problem, while George has also had injections to try and settle a disc problem in his back.

But starting at right-back he lasted only 20 minutes in midweek and, ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Boreham Wood, caretaker boss Matthew Bates admitted: “Luke had a scan yesterday and he is going to be out a while.

“We hope to have him back this season but it will be touch and go.

“It is frustrating - I like the lad. He can play right-back or midfield, has grit and determination and is great around the dressing room. He is a good character.

“Luke has done everything he can to be fit this season, we just hope he might be for the last couple of games.’’

Pools are also unlikely to see centre-half Michael Ledger again. Signed on a season-long loan from Sunderland, he has only made nine starts and hasn’t been seen at Pools of late, with him being back at the Academy of Light for treatment on an injury problem.

But he has now agreed a two-year deal with Norwegian side Notodden FK.

And Bates admits he is in the dark regarding Ledger’s situation.

“He is still struggling with a hamstring injury,’’ said the stand-in boss. “I am sure the clubs will sort that out if he is to sign for someone else, but as far as I am aware he is still a Hartlepool player.’’

Striker Jake Cassidy is a doubt for tomorrow with an ankle injury, while Jack Munns yesterday joined in training after surgery to remove a mouth tumour.

Bates said: “It is Jack's first session back and it will be a tough one. We will see if he can play, he will hopefully be in my thoughts.

“We are hoping that Ryan Donaldson will be around two to three weeks.

“He will start training again in two weeks and we hope to get him back as soon as possible given the situation.

“We have a lack of bodies, as everyone knows.’’

He added: “Thursday is our first real day back outdoors, but we have to protect the lads. We got the GPS stats back from Tuesday and they ran more and covered more distance on Tuesday. With the small squad we have then we don’t want to injure them more.

“The lads who played Tuesday will have a bit of a recovery day and a video watch in the afternoon before we get back out in training tomorrow.’’
