SUMMER signing Jake Cassidy is back in contention for a starting spot with Hartlepool United.

The striker has been sidelined since the end of August with a foot injury and needed rest to allow the problem to heal.

He returned to training at the back end of last week and made a welcome return to the side as a substitute in last weekend’s draw at Boreham Wood.

And, with back to back home games to come with Aldershot tomorrow and Halifax on Tuesday, the striker is pushing for a start.

“Jake is back in the frame and injuries are easing up now,’’ said boss Craig Harrison. “We haven’t done too badly without Jake and fair play to the boys in there. We have relied on players up front who have done well.

“Jake did well last week and he has a presence, when he came on against Boreham Wood last week they dropped even deeper. It’s good for competition for places to have him back.

“Jake has been strong physically as he’s been able to do a lot of work off the pitch. But he’s been out for nine weeks so it will take a bit of feel to come back into the games.

“Pre-season you have weeks off and then soon start flying. Jake is back training now, he’s had a week of training, he’s played 20 minutes last week and will be involved again this week.’’

Asked if it was a big relief to have his injury list shortening by the week, the manager admitted his sidelined players are not necessarily part of his focus each day.

While the injured work with the club’s physio staff, Harrison concentrates on the players he has avaialable.

"Honestly, no, I'm a believer in controlling the controllables,’’ he responded. "I can't spend energy on players who can't affect things, I'd rather spend more positive energy in making sure the players who are playing are at their best.

"Yes, it's disappointing when a player is out, I've had injuries myself and I know what it's like to be out.

"But it's not something I have sleepless nights over, believe me."

Pools have put a ticket offer on for the next two games. Tickets prices have been cut by up to 50 per cent, meaning supporters can see tomorrow’s game for £10 (adults), £5 (concessions) or £1 (Under 16s).

And, in a second layer to the offer, any supporter who takes advantage of the ticket savings for the Aldershot Town match, can buy tickets for the Halifax game for the same price provided they are bought together by 4pm today.

Supporters must purchase in advance from the club ticket office, with Aldershot tickets available both today and tomorrow
